Snorkeling After Scuba Diving: DCS Risk?

In the early 80's, I was a Safety Diver at Ventura College in CA. After the scuba instructors finished doing drills with their students, they were handed off to me to take on a tour of the reef. Upon returning to the boat, we would move up into the shallows and spend some surface-interval time by snorkeling for abalone or scallops. Those were the days!! Little did we know that we were at risk for DCS. This article explores the dangers of breath-hold diving after scuba. As you will see, it could happen under the right conditions, but the likelihood is remote, at best.
